Manually cleaning a residential swimming pool can be a daunting task. Good thing, robotic pool cleaners can come to the rescue. However with the numerous available pool cleaners these days it can be quite confusing to choose which one suits your needs.
Robotic pool cleaner is no longer a clumsy waterproof piece of electronic that crawls and turns on the pool floor. Manufacturers now use better technologies to make their robots run faster, clean better, and operate easier.
Take the Polaris P955 for example, a controllable robot with 4-wheel drive technology and motion sensor. It is a high-end robot designed for one purpose, cleaning your pool.
Main Features of Polaris P955
Sophisticated technologies do not always have to be complicated to use. In contrast, they must give understandable interface with which users can control everything hassle-free. The Polaris P955 gives a good example that even a fully-featured robot can be easy to configure.
The robotic pool cleaner is packaged with a stand-alone control panel and a lot of options to control how it behaves in the pool. Control panel is integrated in the caddy.
One unique feature is the “Lift System” option to tell the robot that you want it to come up to the surface. Once activated, the Polaris P955 will make a left turn and continue to do so until you release the button.
Upon release, the robot will move forward. Make sure the robot is oriented towards the direction you want before you let go of the button. Once it is on the side of the pool, lift it up and drain the water before take it to the caddy or for cleaning.
Filter cartridge are accessible from the top. It is also the only robotic pool cleaner in its family that has dirty canister indicator.
All functions are accessible from the control panel including 7-day programmable timer, intensive/high intensity cleaning level, pool shapes, cleaning cycles, and cleaning surfaces. The Polaris P955 comes with a remote control, 70 feet cable, and flow rate of more than 70 GPM.
As a start, the Polaris P955 looks like a fancy toy car at a glance. Aesthetic is second to performance indeed, but people also adore things that look good. In terms of cleaning performance, the robot handles small and large debris quite well.
It may take a few runs through the same spot for complete debris removal, but you can always control it manually using the remote.
A lot of cleaning options are good, but the control panel takes a little bit or learning curve to understand all functions you can or cannot change. The cable is not tangle-free, so you may not want to leave the robot unattended for prolong period to avoid electrical issues.

It has been far too common for a company to promise an upgraded version of its current product with refinements in performance and new features. Disappointing iteration unfortunately follows quite often, too.
Your favorite features are no longer supported and there are too many unnecessary bells and whistles in the updated version. In the Dolphin DX4S, however, you have none of those.
Main Features of Dolphin DX4S
Intended to be the better upgraded more powerful version of the popular DX3S, Dolphin still gives all major features in the DX4S. An advanced IntelliScan Technology remains present to analyze pool surface and determine the best possible cleaning routes.
It may take a little bit longer for the robot to clean the entire surface at first-time cleaning, but the analytic software allows for better recognition ability afterwards. Faster cleaning is expected after several cycles.
The DX4S comes with all the core Dolphin robotic pool cleaner features including 60 feet swivel cable, dual bottom-mounted quick-release filter cartridge, suction rate of more than 4,000 gallons per hour, 2.5 hour default cleaning cycle, and weekly timer.
Maytronics, the company behind Dolphin Pool Cleaners, has managed to improve some of those core functionalities. The weekly timer is now more effective thanks to full filter indicator.
It means you can basically leave the robot for as long as you want in the pool and take it out only when the indicator turns on. Also, the optional remote control opens access to shorter 1-hour cleaning cycle.
The real highlight in the Dolphin DX4S is its ability to clean floors, walls, coves, and even tile lines. It actually makes no sense if a robotic pool cleaner only scrubs floor, and you must do the rest of the jobs manually. This robot is packaged with a Pro Caddy at no additional cost.
On the plus side, the Dolphin DX4S is an honest product that delivers actual improvements over its predecessor. Newly added features make the robot easier to use particularly with full filter indicator and the optional remote control.
Pretty much everything else is still the same, and in this case, that is a good thing. IntelliScan Technology planted to this robot is also an updated version for better intelligence and accuracy.
A minor drawback is that the package does not include the remote control. If you want to use the 1-hour cleaning cycle, you must purchase the remote separately. Considering this is a minor improvement, it seems silly that the company tries to make you purchase two new products, so you can use less necessary upgrade. Read more reviews here.
